Orikhiv Museum of Local Lore, Zaporizhzhia

Another story of "wounding" was told by the staff of the Orikhiv Museum of Local Lore, located in the Pologiv district of Zaporizhzhia region.

"Since the beginning of the full-scale russian military aggression, the city of Orikhiv has been on the front line. Since then and until now, the city has been under constant enemy shelling, both artillery and aviation. As a result one of such, the building of the Orikhiv Museum of Local Lore was partially damaged: glass in the windows, the front door and the ceiling in one of the museum's halls were damaged. Some of the museum's exhibition halls were dismantled, and the staff had to leave for Zaporizhzhia. However, because they care about the museum, which before the war was the center of the city's cultural, scientific and educational life, the museum staff periodically come to the city, risking their lives, to monitor the condition of the museum and the safety of its collection. They covered the damaged windows with film and cleaned the area around the museum on their own.
From March 1 to August 1 (2022) , the museum staff received 2/3 of their salary. But despite everything, we are trying to preserve the museum collections even under fire. Of course, like many museum staff in Ukraine, we need financial assistance.
We are very grateful to the team of the Museum Crisis Center, personally to Olha Honchar and Lesya Klymenko for their financial and moral support. After the victory, we will resume our work, and we are waiting for everyone to join our large team of museum workers."

PS. We publish the stories of our fellow museum workers with their permission, and only when they believe that there is no threat to their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
