At this time the main duty for the museum staff of Kherson Region Museum of Local Lore is to preserve the collections that had survived the looting of the occupants. The main task of Museum Crisis Center is to help the museum staff that continues to work under extremely difficult conditions. During the worktime and on the weekends the museum workers keep reccords, pack and transfer to the safe places not just some antique items, but also preserve historical memory. And we help them financially.

Museum Crisis Center couldn’t stay aside towards the problems of museum workers who found themselves in a difficult situation in the Kharkiv region - under constant shelling, local museum workers did their best to save the collections. Lots of them, not receiving any financial help, sometimes starving, risking their lives, had been disassembling the exhibitions and hiding the most valuable exhibits. Unfortunately, not everything happened to be saved as missile strikes destroyed the buildings of the National Literary and Memorial Museum of H.S. Skovoroda, the Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Verkhniy Saltiv", the Dvorichansky Museum of Local Lore, and damaged the buildings of 7 other museums. However, thanks to the dedicated work of Kharkiv museum workers, the losses of the museum collection are minimal. Now the museums of Kharkiv region are provided with various types of assistance, and the Museum Crisis Center provided help when it was needed most, providing humanitarian and financial assistance to museum staff. “Today I have received personal humanitarian aid. I would like to note that the set I have received surprises with its variety - it feels that it was collected by people who cared. In addition to food, it included hygiene products, medicines, a set of socks, a soft warm blanket, and a very necessary thing in our time - power banks. It is very nice that in such difficult times you do not remain indifferent to those who need help. You provide your fellow museum workers with not only help, but you give them hope that together we can overcome any adversity!" Nataliia Ivanova, Head of the Department of Scientific and Collection Work of the Kharkiv Historical Museum named after M. F. Sumtsov.

All the staff for Kherson Arts Museum received financial help from the MCC. Since the beginning of russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the occupants had stolen more than 10 000 of the most valuable exhibits of the museum, the building was also damaged several times by rocket and artillery fire, which damaged the fences, windows, and roof. Nevertheless, the institution is working, fighting for the return of its collection and punishment of those, who are guilty of stealing them.

Museum Crisis Center and personally Lesia Klymenko in April 2023 provided financial help for the museum workers of Chernihiv Historical Museum, particularly to its’ brach called “Lisograd”. Yeline village, where the museum is located, for several months has been under the shelling. The branch was forced to close, and its employees became internally displaced. Financial support, among other things, is what saves the day when there is no work and the team is forced to be idle.

In Ukraine. there are not many village museums, and even fewer of them are interesting. Among them, we have Kmytiv Fine Arts Museum named after Bukhanchuk. While most big Ukrainian museums are located in historical buildings or other spaces, not adapter for museum needs, in 1984 in Kmytiv, Zhytomyr region a new 3000 square meter museum building was constructed. The museum houses a unique collection of socialist realism works from various national art schools of the USSR. The Museum Crisis Center supported the staff of the Kmytiv Museum, as well as many other museums in Ukraine. After the victory, we need to tell the true story of Ukraine in the historical realities in which it found itself..

"Right now, when we are writing this post of gratitude, our city of Melitopol and our Melitopol Museum of Local Lore are under occupation. Since February 25, the museum has been closed due to the outbreak of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. At five in the morning on February 24, when explosions were heard at our airfield and military units, the museum staff came to work and did their best to preserve the museum exhibits during this terrible and incomprehensible time. The museum collection could not be taken away, so they hid it as best they could. Thanks to the cohesion of the staff, we developed a schedule of duties during the first month of the war. And despite the presence of the military, who kidnapped the museum director, the museum workers tried to keep their cultural front. Due to the fact that the city is occupied, prices for food and medicine have risen several times, and most museum workers are unable to cover their basic needs. We sincerely thank you for your help in this difficult time. Some of our employees have evacuated, others have remained under occupation. We sincerely believe in the de-occupation of our city, in victory and in the return of our museum!" PS. We publish the stories of our fellow museum workers with their permission, and only when they believe that there is no threat to their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Additionally, here is an interview with the director of the Museum, Leila Ibrahimova, for the online publication Babel .
